THIS happened in Prague last week...

Hi Reader, -- David here from SketchLikeAnArchitect.com

Last Sunday we wrapped up something special in Prague -
a 5-day Urban Sketching Retreat with my good friend Alán Ramiro from See The Lines.

We were 12 sketchers + 2 instructors, exploring my beautiful city with sketchbooks in hand.
And to be honest... I’m still riding the creative high from it all.

My personal highlight?
Day 4 - we were sketching a bridge from an island in the middle of the Moldau.

There was live music nearby, we were in the shade near the water, and every single person was in flow — calm, focused, creating freely.

By that point, it wasn’t about teacher and students anymore.
It was a community. A vibe. A feeling of creative fulfillment I’ll never forget.

Here’s a little peek from the week:

What made this retreat so powerful wasn’t just the location (though Prague was perfect — walkable, scenic, full of sketch-worthy moments on every corner)...

It was the people.
There was zero judgment, zero competition.
Just support, curiosity, and joy.

Here’s what one of our attendees, Caroline, wrote:

“As a beginner painter and sketcher, I was nervous I might be ‘the worst one there,’ but from day one, I felt nothing but support. There was zero judgment or competition. In fact, the group energy was uplifting, creative, and collaborative…”
“Most of all, I left feeling confident, motivated, and creatively fulfilled. I can’t wait to keep sketching back home and trying to recreate some of the magic from my time in Prague.”

✨ That last part really stuck with me.

So now, I’m planning something new to build on top of this --
a way for you to experience this too, without needing a flight to Prague.

I'm thinking of putting together an online course called:

🎥 Urban Sketching Like an Architect: Exploring Prague

It’s still in planning — but it’ll be based on everything we shared and practiced during the retreat:

Real-world locations. Sketching techniques. Perspective tricks. Watercolor tips. Demos. Creative breakthroughs.

And a chance to join a supportive online community where you can share your work and get feedback.

Hi Reader, -- David here from SketchLikeAnArchitect.com Was it worth the long flight? Couldn’t it be done via Zoom? Solid questions. Three connecting flights.Twenty hours of travel.A pounding headache before the presentation. Not ideal. But the very next morning, emails started landing in my inbox: “Your presentation at AIBD was absolutely wonderful. Thank you!” That alone made it worth it. Then there were the conversations — the kind you can only have in person. The hallway chats. The...
