My "celebrity moment"

Hi Reader, -- David here from SketchLikeAnArchitect.com

Was it worth the long flight? Couldn’t it be done via Zoom?

Solid questions.

Three connecting flights.
Twenty hours of travel.
A pounding headache before the presentation.
Not ideal.

But the very next morning, emails started landing in my inbox:

“Your presentation at AIBD was absolutely wonderful. Thank you!”

That alone made it worth it.

Then there were the conversations — the kind you can only have in person.

The hallway chats. The questions over coffee. The handshake that turns into a story, and the story that sparks a new idea.

And yes… the line of people waiting for me to sign their books was a cherry on top.

It was a first time for me speaking in the USA (Asheville, NC). I was there to deliver a 2-hour Morpholio Trace workshop at the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) Conference — showing how iPad sketching can fit right into a professional workflow.

What struck me most was that even in a room full of experienced building designers, the conversation kept coming back to sketching itself.

Because whether you use a pencil or an Apple Pencil:

  • Sketching still makes ideas flow faster.
  • Sketching still communicates concepts more clearly.
  • Sketching still helps you think through design problems in real time.

It’s not just a “nice-to-have” skill. It’s still one of the most essential tools we have.

Recently on my YouTube channel, videos like this and this answering your sketching questions have been getting a lot of love.
